I have had a number of people ask how to setup a Dash wallet, but they don't have any interest in running a masternode (yet).
This video shows how to install the Electrum Dash wallet. If you are interested in holding Dash and are not ready to run a Dash masternode, the Electrum wallet is a great choice as it can easily be restored from a seed that you can keep safe offline.
Go to dash.org and click the Download menu item.
Scroll to the bottom of the page and select the Electrum install for your operating system. This video demonstrates installation on Mac OSX.
Install the software like you would any other download. You may need to grant explicit permission to install depending on your security settings.
After installation is complete, launch Electrum-Dash.
The Electrum-Dash wallet gives you a few options the first time you open it. You can Create a new wallet, or Restore an existing wallet. In this video, I am going to create a new standard wallet.
After clicking next, a seed is generated. Save the seed somewhere and never share it with anyone. The seed in this example does not contain any funds, but if it did, you would be able to restore the wallet and spend the Dash.
Click next and enter the seed that was generated on the previous screen.
On the next screen you will be asked for a password to encrypt your wallet. It is highly recommended you encrypt your wallet. If you do not encrypt your wallet, anyone with access to your computer or wallet file can access your Dash.
You now have a new Electrum-Dash wallet that does not contain any Dash. To receive Dash, click the Receive tab. Send the receiving address to whomever you are requesting Dash from. The recipient will use this address to send you Dash.
That’s it. Should you ever need to restore this wallet to a new computer, you can do so with the seed phrase generated in the first step.
